First-time Setup
Sit Together uses Google Meet for our virtual events. This guide will walk you through the steps to ensure your camera and microphone are working properly before joining a meeting. To join a Google Meet link, you do not need a Google account, but you must grant your browser permission to use your camera and microphone.
Setup Steps

Click the Link and Grant Access
- •Click the Google Meet link you received.
- •Watch for a pop-up box in the top-left corner of your browser window.
- •Click Allow when asked for permission to use your microphone and camera.

Fix Blocked Permissions (If Needed)
- •Locate the icon: Look inside the browser address bar at the very top of your screen.
- •Find the lock: Click the Padlock icon 🔒 or the Camera/Microphone icon located to the far left or right of the web address (
://google.com). - •Change settings: Switch the toggles for Microphone and Camera from Block to Allow.
- •Reload page: Click the Refresh button 🔄 that appears at the top of your browser to apply the changes.

Test and Select Your Hardware
- •Click the Meeting Link: Click the link you received to join the Google Meet.
- •Open settings: Click the Check your audio and video button (or the gear icon ⚙️) on the green room preview screen before you enter.
- •Choose mic: Select your preferred microphone from the drop-down menu and speak out loud to see the blue audio bars move.
- •Choose speakers: Select your speakers or headphones and click Test to listen for a sample sound.
- •Choose camera: Select your webcam and verify that you can see your own video preview on the screen.

Enter the Meeting
- •Enter name: Type your full name into the text box if you are not signed into a Google account.
- •Knock to enter: Click the blue Ask to join button if the meeting has a waiting room.
- •Join the meeting / Wait for host: If the meeting is Open, you'll join immediately, otherwise keep the window open until the meeting organizer accepts your request to let you in.

Prerequisites for Installation
- •Compatible Browser: You must use Google Chrome (version 73 or higher) or Microsoft Edge.
- •No Default Required: Chrome or Edge does not need to be set as your default system browser.
- •Supported Operating Systems: The app installs seamlessly on Windows, macOS, Chrome OS, and Linux.
Method 1: Using the Browser Address Bar
- 1.Open your browser and navigate to the official Google Meet Website.
- 2.Look at the right-hand side of the browser's address (URL) bar.
- 3.Click the Install icon, which resembles a small computer monitor with a downward-facing arrow.
- 4.Click Install again in the pop-up confirmation dialog box.
Method 2: Using the Browser Menu Alternative
- 1.Navigate to the Google Meet Website in your browser.
- 2.Click the three vertical dots (menu icon) in the top-right corner of the window.
- 3.Hover over Cast, save and share (in Chrome) or Apps (in Edge).
- 4.Select Install Google Meet or Install this site as an app.
- 5.Confirm by clicking Install on the prompt.
Post-Installation Tips
- •Pin for Fast Access: Right-click the newly opened Google Meet icon in your Windows Taskbar or Mac Dock and select Pin to Taskbar or Keep in Dock.
- •Automatic Updates: The PWA updates itself silently in the background whenever your background browser updates.
- •Opening Meeting Links: To stop links from opening in regular browser tabs, right-click any Meet link in Google Calendar or Gmail and select Open Link in Google Meet.
